"I grew up between art and science, in a family deeply connected to nature, culture, and the outdoors. Born in South Africa between the mountains and the sea, and later growing up along the coast in Perth, Australia, I was exposed to vastly different landscapes, environments, cultures, and ways of life from an early age.
My childhood was shaped not only by life in Australia, but also by extensive travel through Africa and Southeast Asia with my father, an ethnobotanist and ecologist, whose work immersed me in diverse communities and environments. I grew up surrounded by artefacts, African baskets, books, maps, and stories from around the world. At times it felt overwhelming, but it sparked a deep curiosity about people, culture, and the human experience. I also developed an enduring desire for adventure, to explore the world, experience life in different places, and share those experiences through storytelling.
Growing up, I visited places where some of the earliest human stories began. I explored ancient cave paintings, rock art sites, and landscapes where early humans once lived, created, and passed down knowledge through image and story. Those experiences stayed with me deeply. They taught me that storytelling is something fundamentally human, a way of preserving memory, identity, culture, and connection across generations. For me, my work today is part of an ongoing tradition of storytelling, using modern technology and contemporary filmmaking to carry forward a practice that has existed since the beginning of human history.
My grandfather, an artist and architect, introduced me to another way of seeing. I remember sitting in his studio as a child, flicking through old National Geographic magazines, fascinated by the images and stories they contained. Through him, I was exposed to artists, sculptors, and creative thinkers who dedicated their lives to meaningful work.
Returning to Australia, it took me years to understand where I fit within everything I had experienced. But through that process, I always knew I was an artist. Over time, documentary photography and filmmaking became my way of understanding the world - through culture, science and human connection.
Today, I create human-centred documentary films exploring global issues surrounding culture, people, and place. My work is grounded in the belief that reality itself can be profound and deeply beautiful. In many ways, I see documentary filmmaking as a contemporary extension of humanity’s oldest tradition - the desire to leave traces of our lives, experiences, and beliefs through story and image.
Through documentary, portraiture, lifestyle, and fashion work, I explore not only how people live, but the philosophies, values, and cultural perspectives that shape everyday life. At the core of my work is a desire to connect - to people, place, and the complexity of the world we share. I'm also open to collaborating with brands, organisations, and creative projects aligned with social impact, cultural storytelling, and meaningful change."
